About Us

Located in a park-like setting, Plymouth pulses with opportunities for worship, education, outreach, and friendship. Energized by great programs for children and youth. Renewed with wide-ranging education for adults. Deepened by Scripture-based, passionate preaching. Growing with award-winning choirs. Serving others with compassion. Addressing the vital concerns of today.

Our history in Des Moines is long, first meeting as Plymouth Congregational Church in 1857, joining the national United Church of Christ in 1957, and celebrating our 150th anniversary during 2007. During that time we have been known as Plymouth Congregational Church, Plymouth United Church of Christ and Plymouth Church for brevity...but our fundamental beliefs have remained the same.

Weekly Prayer Vigil of Lament
Noon, Meditation Chapel
This is a half-hour prayer vigil of lament and healing for our broken world. The theologian Karl Barth urged Christians to pray with "the Bible in one hand and the newspaper in the other." In these weekly prayer vigils, we will seek to pray just this way - struggling with both scripture and current events, as we bring the pain of our world to God in communal prayer.
