 "Just Another Sunday"

Did you miss Anthony Livolsi's sermon on Sunday, Jan. 29? Sit back, relax and listen to it here! Or read a copy by clicking here. Enjoy.

Join us for this free concert featuring Plymouth's Chancel Choir, accompanied by Monroe Crossing. Carol Barnett's The World Beloved: A Bluegrass Mass blends the classical mass, modern choral sophistication, touching poetry and traditional bluegrass instrumentation into an exhilarating musical experience.

Monroe Crossing is a five-piece group that will delight you with an electrifying blend of classic bluegrass, bluegrass gospel and heartfelt originals in their own set of the concert. Their airtight harmonies, razor-sharp arrangements, and on-stage rapport make them audience favorites across the U.S. and Canada.

Invite a friend to experience this special Arts @ Plymouth event!

"We need our lives back. It's time to reclaim the gifts of imperfection–the courage to be real, the compassion we need to love ourselves and others, and the connection that gives true purpose and meaning to life. These are the gifts that bring love, laughter, gratitude, empathy and joy into our lives." -Brene Brown, "I Thought It Was Just Me (but it isn't)"

If you are curious about what it means to live an authentic, whole and holy life, this small-group experience is for you. Plymouth's new small groups are intentional communities formed for the purpose of spiritual growth and transformation–and that's our goal in this class: to give people the space, tools, and support to grow more fully into the people God created them to be.

In the Connections class, participants will gather together with others in both large- and small-group settings to practice empathy and awareness and discover what it means to create, embrace and inspire change in ourselves and in the world–change that is real and life-giving and transformative. Click here to register.

Please note: this is not a session-by-session drop-in class. Participants are asked to sign up for the full six-week course and attend as many sessions as possible.

 Ready to Go Deeper?

Plymouth Reads The Gospel of Mark in 2012

From now until Thanksgiving 2012, our weekend worship services at Plymouth will often focus on selections from the Gospel according to Mark -- the earliest written record we have of the life of Jesus. It offers us a remarkable opportunity to get better acquainted with this remarkable book.

Previous generations of scholars often overlooked Mark, dismissing it as crude, repetitive and even poorly written. But new research is rediscovering Mark as a subtle and sophisticated literary work. It protrays Jesus as elusive, mysterious, and strangely compelling -- a character that refuses to stay confined to the pages of the story. Readers of Mark often find themselves unsettled and summoned to do something surprising.

To enrich your experience of worship, and get better acquainted with this transformational text, join us for one of two opportunities to go deeper into the Gospel of Mark.

Plymouth Has Left the Building: The Gospel of Mark at Smokey Row

Joing Matt Mardis-LeCroy on Wednesdays (January 11-February 15) from noon to 1 p.m. at Smokey Row Coffee Company (1910 Cottage Grove, Des Moines) for a fast-paced, interactive study of Mark. The class is designed for busy people, and no prior knowledge of the Bible or theology will be expected. Feel free to come late, leave early and grab some lunch while you're there. All are welcome!

Youth Bible Study on the Gospel of Mark

Anthony Livolsi hosts Wednesday meetings for Youth Bible Study, 4:45-5:45 p.m. at Caribou Coffee on Ingersoll. Participants will be invited to explore the ways in which Mark speaks especially to people who have doubts and secrets and screw-ups -- people just like us.

If you're tired of pat answers and religious cliches -- if you're willing to have your own assumptions called into question, if you have ever wanted to study the Bible in a way that takes your questions seriously -- join us as we go deeper in the Gospel of Mark.

Welcome to Plymouth Church!

Come in! Experience the spirit at Plymouth. We are a community of people from the entire Greater Des Moines area – people of all ages who embrace life’s questions, even when we don’t have all the answers.

We are a progressive, active, inclusive, joyful congregation whose purpose is the heart of Christianity… to increase the love of God and neighbor. Join us as we live our commitment to the Plymouth motto:

We agree to differ. We resolve to love. We unite to serve.
