The mission of the Arts @ Plymouth is to explore, nurture and celebrate the relationships among artistic expression, personal enrichment and spiritual growth. Through offerings that reflect the church's ministry and mission we seek to enrich Sunday morning worship; offer artistic programs for children, youth and families; and present outstanding concerts for our congregation and community.
The first event is an Advent presentation of John Rutter's Gloria during worship on Sunday, December 7th at both the 9:00 and 11:00 services. This exciting music will be sung by a combined Chancel and Matins choir, accompanied by a nine piece brass ensemble, timpani, percussion, and organ.
On Sunday, February 8, 2009 - 3:00 p.m., the sanctuary will come alive with All That Jazz. Performing on the program will be vocal jazz groups VoiceIowa directed by nationally known director Phil Mattson and Vocalese from Valley High School. The Chancel Choir will perform Bob Chilcott's A Little Jazz Mass, accompanied by Des Moines piano great, Bruce Martin.
Admission free of charge and free child care thanks to a grant by the Plymouth Foundation.
The third concert of the season is very family friendly! On Sunday, February 22, 2009 - 3:00 p.m. in Waveland Hall, all are invited to hear Trout Fishing in America. You may remember them from a wonderful concert in 2003 celebrating the opening of the new wing. For more information on this group, go to www.troutmusic.com. Admission free of charge and free child care thanks to a grant by the Plymouth Foundation.
