Plymouth Grounds Coffee Shop

Due to COVID-19, Plymouth Grounds Coffee Shop is closed.

Plymouth Grounds – open 8:30 a.m.-noon, Monday-Friday – provides training to intellectually disabled students age 18-21 from Des Moines-area schools.

When you stop in for coffee or a pastry during the spring and fall semesters, student baristas have the opportunity to practice academic, social and work skills that they have learned in the classroom and apply them to the real world. We are very proud that we have a 92% rate of employment for these students in the private sector after they leave Plymouth Grounds. Plymouth Church volunteers work side-by-side with the students in the not-for-profit coffee shop.

While your experience at Plymouth Grounds may take a little longer than at a traditional coffee shop, you have the satisfaction of knowing you are helping these students brew more than just coffee!

To make your coffee experience a little smoother, Plymouth Grounds now offers reserved parking in the circle drive off 42nd Street during shop hours. Buzz in, park close, and pick up a cup of coffee, latte or iced tea to take with you or enjoy in the shop or on the patio!

The Plymouth Grounds concept has also inspired coffee shop Manager Sue Hoss to create a project for adults with disabilities. WHO TV-13 covered the story. Check it out here, including video.
