We have a lot of exciting things happening in our church, especially as we head into Advent! Plymouth Church provides nutritious meals two nights per month at the Central Iowa Shelter and Services (CISS). These meals Have been primarily provided by Plymouth boards and committees; and, most of the meals are covered for this program year which runs August 2021 through July 2022. The Church is moving toward a whole of Church participation where anyone or small group could sign-up to serve the meal, which has been prepared by CISS staff. December 26 and 27 meal dates remain open which provides an opportunity for families and other groups to participate this meaningful service at a crucial time of year.
You may also be aware that serving the meal in person is optional due to COVID. Therefore, some groups have opted to simply provide cash or enough prepared food to serve 250 persons. Through Church-wide support, $300 per meal is available to go towards the cost of the food, if interested this option is available for a December date. Please contact Susan Pohl: 515.270.8613 or email@example.com with any questions. You can also sign up directly at Board of Benevolence: Central Iowa Shelter meals.
Christmas is only two months away – hard to believe isn’t it? Do you love decorating for Christmas? Do you love organization and making lists? If you’ve answered “yes” to any or all of these questions, we need you!
The Board of Music and Fine Arts seeks volunteers to join the “Christmas Committee” during fall 2021 and early 2022. After many years of service, Plymouth Church’s seasonal decorations need to be evaluated, inventoried, and many items need to be replaced. We need a few good volunteers to take stock of where we are and help plan where we want to go in terms of beautifying Plymouth Church for the holidays.
Contact Christopher Goodson (firstname.lastname@example.org) with questions or to become part of this team!

As we begin to emerge from the pandemic, and once again look forward to welcoming couples into our Sanctuary for weddings, we find that we are in need of wedding coordinators. The wedding coordinator provides an important service to wedding parties and our congregation by guiding and contributing to a meaningful and pleasant experience for all who are married at Plymouth Church. We are seeking two or three people to serve as Wedding Coordinators, providing direction, support and hospitality to the bride and groom, wedding party, and their families. This is done by providing assistance with planning, the wedding rehearsal, and coordination and oversight of pre-wedding activities. Initial training and assistance will be provided by individuals who have served in this way in the past.
If you’re interested in serving our congregation in this capacity, please contact our Director of Operations and Finance, Emily Tripp by email or by phone at 515.255.3149.
Have you ever wondered what happens to the flowers after they’ve beautified the space in Sunday service? They are taken apart by a team of volunteers, converted into 2 or 3 smaller bouquets, and delivered to people who might appreciate a floral greeting from their friends at Plymouth. We are gathering an intrepid band of folks who will take turns in this ministry of care for those who are sick or unable to attend service. If you would like to be part of this ministry, please email Diane Hayes.
Looking for a socially-distant way to get involved with the refugee family project? Consider volunteering to assist our Welcome Team with an outdoor event at the church welcoming our refugee family to Des Moines. The family is expected to arrive in September, and the outdoor welcome event will take place within the first few weeks after the family’s arrival. We will be following current public health recommendations to encourage social distancing at our outdoor event. Planning meetings take place over Zoom, and we’d love to have you join us!
