Food Buddies

Each week starting October 20, 2017, Plymouth Food Buddies has provided non-perishable, healthy and easy-to-prepare meals for children with a need for food. The meals are provided during the school year for weekends when students are not at school and do not have access to school meals.

Volunteers pack the meals before the Saturday night service throughout the year on the second and fourth Saturday of each month at 4:30 p.m. The meals were delivered to Hubbell every Friday through the school year by a Plymouth volunteer. Double sacks of food are delivered before the three longer school breaks at Thanksgiving, Christmas and Spring break.

Throughout the year, people donated food items and money to help support the program. A grant from the Plymouth Foundation helped pay the costs of the meals the first year along with donations. Fareway in West Des Moines partnered with us and provided groceries for the program at a discounted price. A meal costs about $5 each. A week of meals costs approximately $180. Thanks to all who helped with donations. Your continued donations will help keep the program going in the future.

The students loved the program and parents are very appreciative of the meals. Each student had their favorite food. The shelf stable milk is a hit with all of them. Please consider supporting the program with donations of food or money and your time. The program has volunteers who purchase food, pack meals on Saturdays and deliver the meals and pick up tubs at Hubbell.
