Easter Offering 2022

Dear Plymouth Members,

As you celebrate this Easter, please consider a Special Offering gift that supports our Just Peace covenant – working toward economic and/or social justice for our Des Moines Metro Area neighbors. Additionally, the Marlon Laverman Benevolence Fund will provide dollar for dollar match to the initiatives (*) benefiting at-risk children and families with at-risk children. Every donated “penny” and matching funds are distributed for services out-side of Plymouth Church.

Recipients of this year’s Easter Offering are:

  • *Trees Forever: Growing Futures will employ teens from “under resourced communities” to plant and care to improve Des Moines tree canopy. The funds will be used to purchase trees, labor costs and tree maintenance.
  • *Children and Families Urban Movement: The Summer Meal program serves one of Des Moines poorest neighborhoods where 97% of the children qualify for free/reduced cost school lunches. This program provides for 3 meals and 2 healthy snacks each day through out the summer.
  • *Nutrition 4 Young Children: Funds will cover the costs of “Little Bites”, an e-newsletter, which provide information on the importance of adequate and good nutrition for optimal brain development from pre-birth through age 5. This newsletter is sent to low income Polk County parents who have participated in N4YC’s Healthy Baby Showers.
  • *Des Moines Pastoral Counseling Center: Funds will support the cost of therapeutic art and play supplies utilized in counseling children and youth. DMPCC subsidizes counseling services for persons who “otherwise would not have access to quality” care.
  • Just Voice: This initiative works to end racially biased policing in Des Moines. Funds will enable research and publication of findings.
  • Plymouth’s Good Samaritan Fund: This fund provides for urgent, usually emergency funds for community members, covering costs such as rent assistance, utility bills, medical and medicine, and bus/travel expense.
