Plymouth Church will be remotely hosting homeless families June 26th – July 3rd. This is a rewarding experience, which may be tailored to level of interest and schedule. The opportunity time requirements range from a little time to overnight hosting and no contact to limited contact (physical distancing required).
Meal drop-off: Evening (5:15-5:30 p.m.) or Saturday morning (deliver & serve) for up to three families and two hosts. Meals may be purchased or prepared by you and dropped-off for the hosts to serve.
Evening host hours are from 5- 7:30 p.m. Primary activities include setting up meals; social engagement (if families desire); and cleaning up from the evening meal. (Mask required.)
Overnight hosts (7:30 p.m. to 7:00 a.m.) are primarily there to help in the event of emergency (need to contact Family Promise of Greater DSM) – so usually, a little social engagement but mostly just sleeping in “host” room with twin beds. (Mask required when engaging families.)
Van drivers for weekday morning pickup (7-7:15 a.m.), evening pickup (5-5:15 p.m.), Saturday (9-9:15 a.m. and 5-5:15 p.m.) and Sunday (7-7:15 a.m.). Drive Family Promise’s van with families without vehicles to and from host site and Westminster Church. (Mask required.)
Set-up or tear down/clean host site: The set-up usually takes about an hour on Saturday at noon. Tear down/clean up takes about 2 hours on Sunday at 8 a.m. Youth/children participation with an adult are welcome. Hope you are able to make time to help. Also, cash donations to cover Family Promise committee costs are always welcome. If interested in learning more or accessing the Sign-up Genius, please email Irene Hardisty (email@example.com)
