Plymouth News Update for March 23 2020

Greeting from Plymouth Church! Grace to you and peace in the name of our God! I am writing to keep you updated with the latest information on Plymouth’s ministries in these days of social distancing.

Evening Prayer: This week we launch a new on-line offering: Join us every weekday at 5:30 for a livestreamed service of Evening Prayer!

So Garage Sale isn’t happening. And Matins Tour will need a lot of thought. But the High School Youth of Plymouth Church are connecting on Facebook, Instagram and a brand new Matins YouTube channel! Conversation & Connections happens every Wednesday at 4:45, giving high school students a chance to check-in, ask questions, get support and share ideas for staying healthy.  The Senior Small Group will be meeting on Zoom.

And Sooz (that’s Susan Waller, for the uninitiated) has instituted Mobile High School Youth Ministry. Drawing on her training as a Spiritual Director, Susan will be reaching out to high school youth through technology or even by driving to a student’s house, maintaining a 10-foot distance, asking them to come to the front porch or driveway and give her a wave.

When it comes to online worship, we seem to be getting our sea legs. We will continue to livestream Saturday Night Worship at 5:30 (this week’s audio was clear!) and to “premiere” the Sunday service on YouTube at 9 o’clock Sunday morning.

(Check out the Sunday service here.  Check out the Saturday Service here).

But here is what we need from you: SHARE  ! Share these opportunities widely –with people in your networks, with Plymouth people who may not know about them. We need your help to get the word out about worship!

We appreciate your gifts to support the work of Plymouth Church!  Checks can be mailed to us here at the church (4126 Ingersoll Ave Des Moines IA 50312). You might also consider on-line giving (click here to learn more).  Thank you for remembering us.

Remember: every weekday at 11:00 a.m. you will continue to find a new offering from one of the Plymouth staff on the church’s Facebook page.

On Monday, Matt Mardis-LeCroy hosts the Monday morning check-in, a time to share news of the church and prayer concerns.

On Tuesday, Karen Jeske will facilitate Center and Connect, an opportunity to center, process feelings, and connect with other Plymouth members about what we are all experiencing related to social distancing.

On Wednesday, Matt Mardis-LeCroy invites you to join him for a Bible study that will dig into the text for the upcoming weekend’s worship.

On Thursday, Mary Kate Buchanan will be exploring the spirituality of being at home and have some tips for you to make the most of this time.

On Fridays, Lindsey Braun will have content specifically geared to families with children.

LeAnn Stubbs continues to organize volunteers to connect with our older members on the phone. As of today, some 250 Plymouth people have been assigned a telephone care giver!

The Welcoming Migrant Committee invites you to a four week book study of Welcoming the Stranger Justice, Compassion and Truth in the Immigration Debate, by Matthew Soerens and Jenny Yang. The authors offer a Christian response to the immigration dilemma we face in our country. They tell stories of real people’s experiences as they try to navigate our immigration system. They point out the flaws and limitations of the current system and offer ideas for compassionate and just reform. The book study will be co-facilitated by Pastor Nikira Hernandez-Evans and rotating members of the Welcoming Migrants Committee (WMC). It will be held VIRTUALLY from 7-8 p.m. on April 8th, April 15th, April 22ND, and April 29th.

Please remember that the church building is closed. If you need us, call or email!

Thank you for your continued prayer and support. If is such a gift to share life with the people of Plymouth Church!

Grace and Peace,

Matt Mardis-LeCroy
