Theology & Film

Where do we encounter God? Sometimes it is in stillness, nature, or worship. But often it is in a new understanding that comes out of conflict with another person or confronting a new situation. In other words, we encounter God in our stories and if we are attuned, we can also experience God when we hear other people’s stories.

This winter and spring, we will experience God in stories told through film. Come watch, experience, and participate in our collective attuning to hear what God might be saying through these four films.

We will meet on the following Friday evenings from 6:30-9 p.m. in Waveland Hall. Light snacks will be provided but feel free to bring something to share, your own beverage or even your own folding chair.

We will plan 3-4 film series, so do anticipate a new series for the summer months. Here’s what’s coming up this season:

  • March 10: Places in the Heart
  • April: No film in April
  • May 12: Babette’s Feast

To keep informed about these gatherings and future film series, join the Theology and Film group on Church Center. This group is open to anyone who enjoys film and/or theological conversation. We will gather to watch a different film each month followed by conversation connecting theological themes and questions to the film.
