The Transition into Ministry (TiM) Committee is pleased to announce Jack Mahoney as the newest Associate Pastor in the TiM Program. Jack joins us on October 5th as our 16th pastoral resident.
Jack is a native of Connecticut and graduated from Yale Divinity School in May 2021 with certifications from Andover Newton Theological Seminary as well as E,L,M (Education, Leadership, Ministry). He is eligible for ordination in the United Church of Christ. Jack is also a Chaplain Candidate in the United States Navy, CCPO, and will assume those responsibilities upon completion of his residency at Plymouth.
Prior to divinity school, Jack taught art for youth ages 9 – 13 for three years. He also completed his Certified Pastoral Education (CPE) credits at a Veterans Association hospital and has a heart for our veterans.
One reference described Jack as, “inquisitive, thoughtful, disarming and deeply faithful. He is an attentive listener…committed to holding space for a wide range of perspectives and experiences.” Another reference adds, “he’s great with congregations…makes friends quickly, and is great at teamwork.”
The TiM Committee was impressed by Jack’s energy, questions, and ability to relate to different kinds of people over his two-day visit to Des Moines. The Committee is also excited by his compassion and deep spirituality.
At Plymouth we can look forward to Jack sharing his gifts with both youth and adults in our learning spaces, in worship, and out in the community. We plan to have him participate in worship right away and we hope you will find a moment to welcome Jack once he arrives in October.
The TiM Committee is grateful for the flexibility and patience our congregation has shown in waiting for the right moment to hire a new resident and the possibility of extending time for current residents in light of the COVID pandemic. As always, if you have any questions, you are welcome to reach out to me at firstname.lastname@example.org or to our Committee Chair, Amy Anderson at email@example.com.
