Church School

At Plymouth, we want to help kids engage their faith both inside and outside of worship!

Church School is available for all children age 3 to 6th Grade on Sunday mornings during the 9 a.m. worship service! Register here!

Children begin worship in the Sanctuary with their caregivers and are dismissed for Church School by one of our pastors. At that time, all children should be checked by a caregiver in at the designated Check-in tables on the first floor (age 3 to kindergarten) and second floor (grades 1st to 6th).

Church School for age 3 to kindergarten ends at 10 a.m. immediately following worship. Children should be signed-out by a caregiver and picked up from their classroom (Room 103).

Church School for children in 1st to 6th grades ends at 10:10 a.m. Unless written permission is given for a child to leave on their own, children should be signed-out by a caregiver and picked up from their third floor classrooms: 1st and 2nd grade in room 302, 3rd and 4th grade in room 304, and 5th and 6th grade in room 306.

We embrace progressive theology in Church School.

You will see us use Bible stories and also science, history and human reasoning to help support children’s thinking creatively and openly about our still-speaking God. We are dedicated to meeting the needs of all of our learners. And we try to find ways children and families can apply what is learned in Church School into their lives at home and in the community.

Church school curriculum offers opportunities for children to learn stories, pray together, ask questions, and create friendships. Depending on the lesson, you may notice children:  hearing or acting out a Bible story; taking part in creative prayer: having lively discussion; talking about self-care; dancing, singing, playing games, creating art or exploring the church.

In-person groupings:  Children may be in multi-age groups or similar age groups at in-person Church School. Child groupings will vary depending on the focus of lessons, number of children in attendance and available staffing. Parents are welcome to attend with their children. All staff must have a completed Background Check. All parents who are volunteering with children’s programming have a completed Background Check.

Online Church School groupings: Our online Church School is for children of all ages- grown ups are invited and encouraged to come along! Our Zoom offerings often have time for small group break-out sessions. Parents who area attending online Church School with their children do not need a completed Background Check.  All parents who are volunteering with children’s online programming have a completed Background Check.

Child & Family Activities

Plymouth’s Board of Christian Education and Child and Family Ministries work together to plan and implement programs for children and families. In the past, Steppingstones and OWL (Our Whole Lives) classes have been offered. In addition, service projects such as the Port Pillow Project have involved children and families along with other Plymouth Groups. And, Vacation Bible School has been a mainstay of Plymouth summer offerings. We hope for all of this and more in the coming year!

Watch the Contact, Plymouth Weekly, email, and social media for information about upcoming classes and activities! Registration for classes and activities will open several weeks prior to the event(s).
