Social Justice & Compassion

AMOS

Plymouth is part of AMOS (A Mid-Iowa Organizing Strategy) which is a broad-based organization of faith congregations, neighborhood groups, and nonprofits working together to develop citizen leaders, strengthen community institutions, and advocate on the issues important to families. Meeting schedule here.

Anti-Racism Committee

Plymouth’s Anti-Racism Committee (ARC) works to provide educational opportunities that will help Plymouth members understand the historical impact of racial discrimination and how it continues to affect our society today. As one of Plymouth’s newest committees, ARC embodies the practice of a Just Peace church through its work. The tenets of seeking a world where we all can live free from fear and with dignity are central to this mission. Learn more.

Creation Care

Our Creation Care Committee grows in love of God, neighbor, and creation by advocating for environmental justice issues, including climate change, water and soil quality, waste, sustainable agriculture, animal welfare and protection, and refugee farming. These issues are addressed from a faith-based understanding that we are stewards of God's Creation, called to ensure a healthful planet for generations to come. Learn More.

Cuba Partnership Team

Plymouth’s Cuba Partnership Team continues to grow in love of God and neighbor by building people-to-people relationships between Plymouth Church and Ebenezer Baptist Church of Marianao, Cuba. We explore the role and mission of the church in divergent cultures and political systems; providing opportunities for shared worship and spiritual growth.

Peace & Justice

Just Peace is a recognized designation for activities which are intentional and purposeful to alleviate inequities and injustices which may lead to violence. A Just Peace congregation recognizes there can be no true peace without justice for all, including Just Peace in the Community – so that all may live free from fear. Plymouth Justice Network

To “do justice,” as God requires, is to advocate. It is to act. That is the mission of the Plymouth Justice Network, a Plymouth committee that advocates on issues such as LGBTQ+ rights, anti-racism, creation care, welcoming migrants, reproductive freedom, gun laws, food and housing insecurity, and human rights. We do so by sending alerts about pending legislation on the state and national levels, and upcoming rallies and presentations. Learn more.

Rainbow Action Network

The Rainbow Action Network is our LGBTQIA+ committee under our Board of Christian Social Action. This committee is focuses on advocacy and education in support of our queer friends and neighbors. Learn more.

Our program provides one-on-one tutoring or small groups in order to work with each student’s goals and abilities. If you’d like to find out more or are interested in volunteering, email here.

Transition from Prison Ministry

Plymouth’s Transition from Prison Ministry supports those recently released from jail or prison. We walk with them as they begin to rebuild their lives and provide mentorship to help with goals, needs, and meet other challenges.

Welcoming Migrants Committee
