On Display in Plymouth Gallery Now!

Artwork from Central Iowa Textile Artists will be on display now through March 7!

Central Iowa Textile Artists

Central Iowa Textile Artists (CITA) began in 2003 when 6 people decided to meet on a monthly basis to encourage and challenge each other to grow as artists. Now, 15 artists continue to meet monthly. Each artist brings her own mix of art techniques and materials, that can vary for every piece of art she produces. These techniques may include piecing fabrics together, painting, dyeing, collage, applique, silk screen, printing, shibori and embellishing with hand and machine stitching, couching, and beading.

Artistic exploration using themes can bring a group into a cohesion to present their work to the public. This show includes “Crossroads” and “Blue” and demonstrates various interpretations of those themes:

Crossroads
A place where two roads meet and cross each other. An intersection where a choice must be made, to go straight, or change course and take a new direction. We come to many crossroads in our lives, places where we decided to stay on the straight path, to take the path least taken, or to create a new path altogether. Sometimes life events force us down a path we don't choose. What does it mean to stay the course, change course, or find a different way? What helps give voice to the issues we face as individuals, communities or globally, as we stand at the intersection.

Blue
One of the three primary colors in the spectrum. The color blue is often associated with a sense of calm, serenity or tranquility. Gazing at a blue sky or a body of water can be soothing on the mind and/or body. Blue can also describe a feeling of sadness or melancholy. Blue holds different meanings and interpretations in different cultures.

Mariah Jade Exhibit: March 7 to May 18

This exhibit from artist Mariah Jade focuses on painting with texture using acrylic, salt, sand, tissue paper, magazines, old books, and crochet materials. These textures help bring each piece to life and create layers that invite the viewer to experience more than just what they see.
